One of the most common questions we get from new users is: "Should I use Kanban or Scrum?" The answer depends on your team, your project, and how your work flows.
Kanban: Continuous Flow
Kanban is ideal for teams with a steady stream of incoming work — support teams, DevOps, and teams that don't need fixed deadlines. Work flows continuously through the board, and WIP limits prevent bottlenecks.
Scrum: Sprint-Based
Scrum works well for product teams building features in iterations. You plan a sprint (1-4 weeks), commit to a set of tasks, and review progress at the end. Velocity tracking helps you improve over time.
Key Differences
- Planning: Scrum has sprint planning; Kanban is continuous
- Cadence: Scrum has fixed cycles; Kanban flows freely
- Roles: Scrum has defined roles (Scrum Master, PO); Kanban is flexible
- Metrics: Scrum tracks velocity; Kanban tracks cycle time & throughput
